Environmental Journalism in the HKBU curriculum

Environmental Journalism in the HKBU curriculum

In 2009, 2010 and 2011 HKBU’s Year-2 International Journalism beat reporting students have taken part in surveys alongside GEJI students from Sydney, London and Hamburg. The first was on plastic bags, and took place a few months before the Hong Kong legislation that required payment for them came into force. The second was on bottled water, and the most recent was an update on plastic bags. Some of the results have been published in UTS’s Reportage Enviro. In 2009 a whole issue of the Department of Journalism’s student newspaper The Young Reporter was dedicated to the environment and used stories that came out of the environmental beat reporting class.

In 2010 Prof Wendy Bacon of University Technology Sydney (UTS), coordinator of GEJI, came to give talks to students and lead a forum on environmental journalism with the support of the HKBU Century Club. Read more here.
