Chinese Journalism

Chinese Journalism Concentration

Chinese Journalism (CJ): The backbone of the CJ comprises the four "writing" courses, which run from the beginning of Year Two to the end of Year Three. Three two-unit production courses in the first semester of the Year Two prepare the students for output in any medium which the situation requires; the four laboratory courses which run consecutively from the second semester of Year Two, provide the opportunity to put the resulting news gathering, reporting and editing skills into practice. At the same time students will undertake four conceptual courses which stress the theoretical aspects of journalism and its practice. Journalism Elective is provided, in Years Three, by which time we hope students will be qualified to make intelligent choices. Media Law & Ethics is required in Year Three. The Honours Project (4 units) is taken in the final semester of the course. CJ students who wish to specialize in traditional broadcast journalism will take one advanced broadcasting course in place of the fourth writing course, and one course in News Anchoring in place of the Journalism Elective.

Broadcast Journalism is offered as a stream under Chinese Journalism.
