London & Prague
After a whole year's planning, two groups of journalism postgraduate departed Hong Kong in January, heading to Prague and London for week-long study tours in European cities. Students off to Prague attended an intensive journalism training course held by Transition Online and hustled through the snow for their news stories. They spoke to Czech people, visited a beer factory, and even popped into the famous Radio Free Europe to experience the excitement, beauty and awe of being a foreign correspondent. Staying in the University of Westminster, the group in London visited news media such as the BBC and Financial Times, with the aim of understanding the different ways news has developed and the forms it takes in the contemporary world. They did not, of course, miss out punting along the River Cam and reading a poem on the Bridge of Sighs.
